Department of Pharmacovigilance
1. The Department of Pharmacovigilance is a service under the National Directorate of Pharmacy and Medicines, responsible for overseeing activities related to pharmacovigilance within the Ministry of Health.
2. The Department is responsible for:
a) In coordination with the Department of Authorization and Introduction of Goods, studying and proposing standards for the use of medicinal products, maintaining and updating the National List of Essential and Supplementary Medicines, and ensuring compliance;
b) Coordinating the establishment of control mechanisms and quality assurance for medicines imported or marketed in the country;
c) Organizing and maintaining an up-to-date database of pharmacies, medicine sales outlets, pharmaceutical production laboratories, clinical analysis laboratories, and warehouses of medicines and medicinal products;
d) Carrying out other tasks as provided by law or regulation, as well as those assigned by higher authorities.
3. The Department of Pharmacovigilance is headed by a department chief, appointed and dismissed in accordance with the general regime for leadership and management positions in the Public Administration. The chief reports hierarchically to the Director of the National Directorate of Pharmacy and Medicines.
